New Superintendent/Principal Selected Dr. Raul Ramirez

At the regular school board meeting of May 19, 2020, the Governing Boars of the Mesa Union School District took action to employ Dr. Ramirez as Superintendent to succeed Mr. Jeff Turner who will become the Superintendent of the Colusa Unified School District.

At the meeting, Dr. Ramirez spoke to the board and introduced his wife, Sonia Escobar, children, Adrian and Julian Ramirez and his parents, Ruben and Maria Ramirez. Board President, Dr. Neil Canby welcomed him and his family to the meeting and spoke to the reasons why the Board is excited to work with him in the coming years.

Dr. Ramirez grew up in Ventura County where he attended schools in Oxnard and graduated from Channel Islands High School. After graduating from Channel Islands High School School, he attended the University of Southern California as an undergraduate. After completing his Bachelor's degree, he went on to earn a Master's degree from Loyola-Marymount University before returning to the University of Southern California to complete his Doctoral degree.

Dr. Ramirez brings a breadth of experience to the Mesa Union School District having taught in LAUSD and charter schools in Los Angeles. He came back to Ventura County to work as a high school administrator for the Oxnard Union High School District prior to becoming a principal in the Rio School District. For the past five years he has worked at an executive level as Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services in the Santa Barbara Unified School District where he is responsible for educational programs for preschools, district schools and charter schools. Dr. Ramirez also holds a certification in School Business Management from the University of Southern California. He is obliterate in Spanish and brings a wealth of experience working in multicultural communities.
